Follicles, begone!

I have EXTREMELY thick hair. Very thick, very wavy, very coarse. Most days, it has a mind of its own. During warm/hot weather, my scalp stays wet (with sweat or water) because it just can't dry, there is too much hair there. Gross, eh? That can't be good for my scalp and I have the subsequent itchiness to go with the constantly damp scalp. It drives me crazy.

When I was younger I kept my hair SHORT. Very short. Razor short. I let it grow long in college and it's been long ever since. Great massive waves and curls of heavy, thick, hot hair. I usually tolerate it through the summer, and look forward to its excellent insulating qualities for the winter months.

This year, it was just too much and I asked myself (because sometimes, I do talk to myself), I asked, "Jenn, why are you suffering for vanity? Why? Because some archaic thinking determined girls are supposed to have long hair? Yeah, whatever. Stop it!"

Ten pounds of hair later (You think I'm kidding? I'm not.) I'm back to my pre-college hair length. Short, short, short. Razor short. No more than an inch long around my head short. It's cute! And so easy to deal with. My head feels like it's floating and I can almost feel the disks in my neck de-compressing.

Hubby is on the fence about it. He prescribes to the "Women are supposed to have long hair," mentality regarding hair, but I do think he'll get used to it, eventually.

I'll bet my shampoo/conditioner consumption drops by at least 95 percent!

And the best part? Unruly looked at me post-hair cut and said "Mommy! You look 10 years younger!" I'm thinking the hair will stay short. I can stand to lose a few years!

WOW... I can't imagine! but what a huge relief! you must have a good face. People with a good face can do without hair. I am not one of them! :)

You are adorable in short hair. I am thinking about cutting mine too, but usually just tuck it under my cap, or up in a 'senior lady' bun..... ackk time for a 'do'.

Oh my! What is in the air? This is the second story in two days I have heard of someone whacking off all their hair totally out of the blue. I think -- freedom! coolness! control! Yahoooo!

Yay, for non-sweaty scalps! My scalp is one of the first things to sweat on me as well. My hair isn't all that long though.

Will you be updating your pic on your BND blog?

Nancy, hmmm...yeah, I do need to get that updated now, especially because I look 10 years younger! However...by the time the photo department gets around to it, the hair will be mid-back length again. :P

I LOVE it short. I wasn't so sure about it at first, because it's been so long since I've had to "do" anything with my hair, but you know, it's easy, its' quick...it's COMFORTABLE!

As soon as I can get Hubby to get a decent photo, I'll get it up.

Hey! While he's getting a picture of you to post, how 'bout holding Wild down and getting a picture of her to toss on here, too?
If the flash won't hurt her too much, that is...hmmmmm....

I have a ton of pictures of Wild...all of the back of her head or her hair flying around her face and she flings her features away from the camera.
