There's something about girls

I am blessed with two wonderful daughters. Do they drive me bat shit sometimes? Oh, absolutely! I'm sure I drive them a little crazy sometimes, too. It's a pretty equal trade-off, I think.

Girls are fantastic. Let me name the ways: Mom/daughter days, shopping trips, painting our nails together, cooking up a batch of brownies, talking about make-up or skin care or clothes or just sitting around and watching a sappy movie. Of course, we can't forget our tom boy ways. Slogging through the mud to catch that big green bull frog or slithery brown snake, playing a game of catch, riding horses til the sun goes down, skinned knees, muddy clothes, pine cones in pockets, rock collections, butterfly nets and climbing trees.

Wild, Unruly and Wild's best friend, Cheeks, at the zoo. What's with the green? I must have missed the memo.

Wild (on the left) and Cheeks. A very rare moment, they let me photograph them instead of just the backs of their heads!

Ahhh...BFFs. There is nothing comparable to a girl's best friend. No, I'm not talking about diamonds. Who wants a stinkin' diamond when your best friend is there with a box of chocolates, a chick flick and a bottle of Paint The Town Red nail polish when things aren't going so great? Who else can you hang out with in your PJs all day long and its perfectly okay if your hair is a disaster and your make-up is non-existent? Your best girl friend, of course!

I met my best friend in 7th grade. I walked up to her in the junior high commons and asked her "So, I hear you ride horses. Do you ride English or Western?" And that was that. We've been pretty inseparable since. Well, except for that one time I stole her boyfriend. Oh, and the time her jerky boyfriend had me in tears when he told me she didn't want to talk to me ever again because she thought I was an ass. Hmmm...seems boys were our biggest problem!

That was over 20 years ago. Scary, isn't it? Now we are watching our own girls grow up and boy, does it ever bring back some memories for us. I feel very old. We always did joke about growing old together and sitting on the front porch drinking mint juleps in bad hats and being the scary old ladies who yell at the kids who walk on the grass. Guess we're well on our way to that scenario, eh?

I love this post. I've been blessed with several great BFF's and my sis. I know of women who have never had a BFF and I find it sad. Everyone should know the sisterhood of a great friend. BTW, beautiful girls!

Beautiful girls! Lovingly written! My BFF called and sang Happy Birthday to me last week and noted we have been wishing one another happy B-day for over 40 years now. Now that zapped my illusion of continued youth.....

I'm sure you already know this, but your girls are knock-outs! And, although I've never had one (WHAT?! A cocktail I haven't tried?!) I dearly want a mint julip.

This puts me at peace with the fact that I spawned a girl.

Eh ... I'm still glad I have a boy. I get to teach him how to fart with his armpits. That is quality father-son stuff right there.

Hate to break it to you sis, but you two are NOT well on the way to that ol' lady scenario. You are so already there. I've seen you two sitting on the porch yelling at the kids and drinking cocktails. Only the bad hats were missing...

:)

I miss my nieces. Wild is such a pretty young woman, I wish she could see herself through my eyes.
