Oooh, a friend!

I made a new friend today. OKay, I know, that sounds kind of dorky, but, when you live miles from nowhere and neighbors are few and far between, new friends are always cause for celebration.

Especially the kind that only live two miles down the road and and have horses and ride and gave me permission to ride on her land. Cool, eh? I'm probably more excited about making a new friend, as a grownup, than I should be, but I feel kinda all giddy inside, much like when I was in high school and got invited over to someone's house for the first time.

It was hard for me to make friends in high school. I always wore the wrong clothes, said the wrong things, liked the wrong things and my hair was ALL wrong. Despite all the wrongs, it could have been much worse, I could have been a dork. Oh, wait, I was a dork. All in all, I was lucky during high school, I had a couple of very good, very loyal friends. One of those remains my best friend to this day. That's pretty lucky, in my opinion. Who cares if I wasn't a top-of-the-pile cheerleader type? I made a lifetime best friend. Not many people can claim that.

I make friends much easier now, but keeping them around isn't always a simple task. It's hard to maintain friendships when you are so busy with everything else in your life: Work, family, crap, more crap. The older you get, the harder it is to hang on to new friends, which is kind of sad. It takes so much more effort when you actually have to plan to get together instead of just being tossed together in the halls with a couple hundred other people every day for hours a day.

So yeah, I'm pretty excited about my new friend right down the road. She seems very, very nice. She seems like the kind of person I'd like to hang out with from time to time.

Her name isn't Anita by chance, is it?

I think I remember her name being Christy. But, you never can tell...sometimes my memory isn't as sharp as it used to be!
